ADNOC Partners With TotalEnergies and BP for Bab Gas Cap

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company leads a global consortium to develop the Bab Gas Cap project, targeting 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas production per day.

The Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs of Abu Dhabi awarded a concession agreement to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and a group of international partners to develop the Bab Gas Cap. Operated by ADNOC Onshore, the project is the largest gas cap development of its kind globally and targets a production capacity of approximately 1.5 billion standard cubic feet of gas and condensate per day.

ADNOC holds a 60% participating interest in the venture. TotalEnergies and BP each hold 10% interests, while the remaining stakes are divided among CNPC International (8%), JODCO/INPEX (5%), China ZhenHua Oil (4%), and Korea GS E&P (3%). The output is expected to represent roughly 15% of ADNOC Gas' total operational gas processing capacity.

The development is a central component of the United Arab Emirates' strategy to enhance gas self-sufficiency, boost domestic feedstock for the petrochemicals sector, and expand liquefied natural gas export capabilities, specifically supporting the Ruwais LNG project. TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné stated that the acquisition aligns with the company's upstream strategy to add low-cost, low-emissions resources while contributing to the development of the UAE's hydrocarbon resources.
