Media Research Center Accuses Apple News of Republican Bias
The Media Research Center alleges Apple News promoted 84 negative headlines regarding Republican priorities and zero positive stories ahead of the midterm elections.
The Media Research Center released an analysis alleging that Apple News engaged in political bias by targeting Republican priorities with negative coverage before the midterm elections. The study reviewed the top 20 stories promoted daily by the app from September 15 to September 30, focusing on 10 key GOP priorities including immigration, the economy, and law and order.
Researchers found that of 117 stories related to Republican-aligned issues, 84 featured negative headlines and 33 were neutral. The report claims that zero stories presented these issues in a positive light. The MRC further alleged that the platform curated feeds to push a left-wing agenda, specifically framing the economy through high gas prices and portraying police abolition positively.
MRC President David Bozell characterized these editorial decisions as an attempt to interfere with the elections, noting that the app is preinstalled on every iPhone in the United States. Apple did not immediately respond to requests for comment, though a spokesperson previously stated the platform promotes a wide range of outlets across the political spectrum.
