UN Demands Freedom of Movement After Israeli Tanks Block Convoy

The United Nations demanded unrestricted movement for UNIFIL peacekeepers after Israeli tanks obstructed a convoy and aimed weapons at vehicles in southern Lebanon.

The United Nations demanded unrestricted freedom of movement for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) after two Israeli tanks obstructed a peacekeeping convoy in Tiri on Wednesday. During the incident, one tank aimed its weapon at a UNIFIL vehicle and forced the patrol to reverse.

This confrontation occurs amid ongoing hostilities in southern Lebanon, with the UN documenting hundreds of projectile launches by both Israel and Hezbollah over a two-day period. In response to the crisis, UN humanitarian affairs chief Tom Fletcher announced a 12 million dollar allocation from the Central Emergency Response Fund to support displaced populations.

While nearly 50,000 people have returned to the Nabatieh and South Governorates following a regional ceasefire, more than 106,000 people remain in collective sites due to continued insecurity and destruction.
