Bill Ackman Analyzes AI Market Risks and Anthropic Potential
Bill Ackman describes Anthropic as a premier business story while warning that rogue actors using open-source AI pose the greatest safety risk.
Investor Bill Ackman stated that the current investment market is narrowly focused on a small group of high-profile entities, specifically SpaceX, Anthropic, and the infrastructure companies that support them. While Ackman described Anthropic as an amazing business with high product quality and a significant revenue ramp, he expressed hesitation about investing in fast-growing companies that require vast amounts of capital and face competition from open-source models.
Ackman noted that his own firm uses Claude internally, but he prefers more stable investments such as Microsoft, Visa, and Mastercard. He compared frontier AI labs like Anthropic and OpenAI to pharmaceutical companies, arguing that these established organizations have a strong disincentive to release harmful products.
Regarding AI safety, Ackman indicated he is less concerned about the actions of established frontier labs. Instead, he identified rogue actors who utilize the resources of open-source models to cause enormous harm as the primary risk to society.
