AT&T Sells Mexican Mobile Unit for $2 Billion
AT&T agreed to sell its Mexican mobile operations to a consortium of Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings for $2 billion in cash.
AT&T agreed Tuesday to sell its Mexican mobile unit to a consortium composed of Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings for $2 billion in cash. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals in Mexico and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.
Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings will each hold a 50 percent stake in the purchasing consortium, which will fund the acquisition through available cash and non-recourse secured debt financing. As of December 2025, the unit served approximately 24.7 million subscribers, making it the second-largest mobile operator in Mexico.
AT&T is divesting the asset to prioritize its domestic 5G and fiber networks. The company will classify the unit as held-for-sale in its third-quarter 2026 SEC filing. CEO John Stankey stated that the move positions the Mexican unit to participate in an evolution where the AI future runs on converged networks with dense fiber assets.
