US Army Awards $50 Million Water Generation Contract
The United States Army contracted Genesis Systems for $50 million to develop atmospheric water generators that produce drinking water from the air in austere environments.
The United States Army awarded a nearly $50 million contract to Genesis Systems for the research, development, testing, and procurement of WaterCube Atmospheric Water Generation systems. These machines function as large-scale dehumidifiers that extract potable drinking water from the air to support service members in contested environments where conventional resupply is difficult or dangerous.
The Army's largest units can produce approximately 1,000 gallons of water per day in humid conditions. This initiative aims to reduce the logistical burden and risk associated with hauling bottled water or using tanker trucks, which are vulnerable to attack during large-scale conflicts. While the systems provide a scalable on-site solution, they require significant electricity and maintenance to operate.
