Apple Expands AI Recruitment and Partners With Alibaba in China
Apple Inc. is hiring AI specialists in China and partnering with Alibaba Group to develop a market-specific large language model.
Apple Inc. is expanding its artificial intelligence recruitment across China, targeting specialists in machine learning, generative AI, large language models, and computer vision. Hiring efforts are concentrated in Beijing and Shanghai, with additional roles appearing in Tianjin. The company is integrating AI into consumer product development—including search and video intelligence—as well as operational processes such as logistics and supply-chain automation.
This recruitment drive coincides with a broader national boom in the sector, following an August 2026 initiative by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security that offered more than 11,000 AI-related positions.
Strategically, Apple has shifted away from its reliance on third-party models within the Chinese market. While the company utilizes OpenAI and Anthropic models in the United States, it has partnered with Alibaba Group to train a large language model specifically for China.
