Renaissance Africa Energy Finds Light Oil at JK-004 Well
Renaissance Africa Energy Company announced a significant light oil discovery at the JK-004 exploration well in Nigeria's shallow waters.
The Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited announced a significant offshore oil discovery at the JK-004 exploration well on July 7, 2026. The find occurred within Oil Mining Lease 74 in Nigeria's shallow waters, where the company encountered approximately 1,000 feet of hydrocarbon-bearing intervals across seven reservoirs containing light oil. The discovery was revealed during the NOG Energy Week Conference & Exhibition.
This event marks the first major exploration success for Renaissance since it assumed operatorship of the assets from Shell the previous year. The project is a joint venture with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, TotalEnergies Limited, and Agip Energy and Natural Resources, operating under the oversight of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.
Company executives and Nigerian government officials described the discovery as a milestone for the national upstream sector. They stated the find could help reverse declining crude output and increase national reserves. Tony Attah, the company's Managing Director and CEO, attributed the result to the strength of the firm's exploration programme.
