Associated Press Launches Comprehensive 2026 Election Voter Poll
The Associated Press is using a hybrid polling methodology to analyze voter motivations and determine race winners in the 2026 U.S. elections.
The Associated Press is utilizing the AP Voter Poll by SSRS to analyze the 2026 elections, focusing on the coalitions and motivations shaping races for the U.S. Senate, governorships, and congressional control. Launched in 2025, the survey blends traditional exit polling with the methodology of AP VoteCast to provide a detailed view of the electorate.
The process involves interviewing approximately 75,000 voters across all 50 states via phone, mail, and online panels starting in late October. These efforts are supplemented by 25,000 in-person interviews at polling places in 15 key states on Election Day. In California, the survey includes specific questions regarding Proposition 40, a proposed tax on billionaires.
Initial results are scheduled for release at 5 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, November 3. While the poll does not replace official vote counts and will not report topline findings, the AP Decision Team uses the data alongside registration and turnout statistics to help declare race winners.
