APEDA Exports Himachal Pomegranates and Arunachal Kiwi to Dubai
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority facilitated shipments of premium pomegranates and kiwi from India to Dubai to expand agricultural trade corridors.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated two distinct agricultural export initiatives to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, targeting high-value produce from India's northern and northeastern regions.
In Himachal Pradesh, APEDA coordinated the export of 1.3 metric tonnes of premium Sinduri pomegranates from the Kullu district. The shipment of 650 boxes was procured from the Bhuntar Farmer Producer Organisation, representing roughly 600 farmers. By utilizing Amama Exports to bypass intermediaries, participating growers realized prices 50% higher than domestic benchmarks. This move is part of a state strategy to diversify exports beyond apples into stone fruits and processed goods.
Simultaneously, APEDA managed a trial shipment of 1.5 metric tonnes of kiwi from Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh. Under the initiative Kiwi: USP of Arunachal Pradesh, the produce was placed on retail shelves at LuLu Hypermarket in Al Qusais to test consumer demand and quality standards. The trial focused on the Monty, Allison, Bruno, and Hayward varieties, with the Hayward variety attracting significant international interest. This project was coordinated by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region to connect northeastern farming communities with global commercial channels.
