Samsung Replaces OneDrive Sync with Google Photos Integration

Samsung Electronics is replacing the Microsoft OneDrive integration in its native Gallery app with a direct connection to Google Photos. The transition began with the release of Gallery version 15.9.01.7 and is expected to be part of the One UI 9 update. Samsung has already disabled OneDrive synchronization for new users, and existing sync services will officially shut down on September 30, 2026.

The new integration allows users with a personal Google account and a device running Android 13 or higher to sync camera rolls, screenshots, and downloads in original quality. Users can monitor their Google account storage and select specific albums for synchronization directly within the Gallery app. Deletions and edits are mirrored across both platforms, and the service requires users to grant Google permission to share account information with Samsung.

Certain limitations apply to the new system. Synced items do not integrate with Google Photos features such as Search, Memories, Live albums, or highlights unless the media is backed up natively through the Google Photos app. Additionally, the Gallery app will not display images uploaded directly to Google Photos. Google Workspace and supervised child accounts are currently unsupported. Users who wish to continue using OneDrive for backups must now enable camera backup directly within the OneDrive app rather than through the Samsung Gallery interface.
