Tetra Tech Pays $57 Million to Settle Shipyard Fraud

Tetra Tech EC Inc., a subsidiary of Tetra Tech, Inc., agreed to pay $57 million to settle False Claims Act allegations involving the falsification of soil tests at the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. The U.S. government alleged that between 2003 and 2014, the company fabricated work and manipulated data to falsely indicate the site was free from harmful radiation.

According to the government, the company instructed technicians to replace contaminated soil samples with clean ones and manipulated database scan results. These actions allegedly allowed the company to receive unearned contract fees, avoid expensive remediation work, and facilitate the transfer of the property to the City of San Francisco for redevelopment. The settlement follows whistleblower lawsuits filed by former employees and contractors.

This agreement follows a previous $40 million settlement paid by the company on July 2, 2025, under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act. The investigation was a coordinated effort involving the Department of Justice and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service to address the fraud.
