Rajya Sabha Adjourned Seventh Day Amid Opposition Protests

The Rajya Sabha adjourned on Tuesday for the seventh consecutive day as opposition parties continued disruptions that began at the start of the Monsoon session on July 20. Protesting members demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah provide a statement regarding alleged police force used against demonstrators at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi who were protesting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test paper leak.

Jitan Ram Manjhi, the Union Minister, managed to introduce The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026, despite the noise in the House. However, the proceedings were too unstable to discuss the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated that the adjournment was a direct result of Amit Shah's refusal to appear in the House to address the alleged atrocities committed against youth protesters. The House has remained largely dysfunctional due to these ongoing demands for government accountability.
