Vanguard S&P 500 ETF Hits All-Time High of $716.39

The Vanguard Group's S&P 500 ETF reached a record intraday high in August 2026 amid strong growth in AI-driven technology stocks.

The Vanguard Group's S&P 500 ETF (VOO), the largest fund of its kind globally, reached an all-time intraday high of $716.39 per share on August 13, 2026. The fund has risen 12% year-to-date and currently manages $1.7 trillion in assets with a 0.03% expense ratio.

The fund follows a passive investment strategy mirroring the S&P 500, with primary holdings in large-cap U.S. companies such as Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon. This strategy aligns with the philosophy of founder John C. Bogle, who advocated for buying the entire market rather than attempting to pick individual winning stocks.

Despite the record highs, current valuations are elevated, with the index trading at 21 times forward earnings against a historical average of 17. Analysts warn that heavy concentration in AI-driven tech stocks reduces overall diversification, leaving the fund vulnerable to shifts in Federal Reserve interest rate policies or a slowdown in AI spending.
