Energean Enters Exclusive Talks to Buy BP Egypt Assets

Energean has entered exclusive negotiations to acquire a package of BP oil and gas assets in Egypt in a deal potentially valued at $1 billion. The proposed acquisition includes BP's interests in the producing West Nile Delta gas assets, held alongside Harbour Energy, and a 50% contractor working interest in the Temsah concession in the eastern Mediterranean.
The Temsah asset's value rose following the Denise West discovery, which Eni estimates contains 2 trillion cubic feet of gas and 130 million barrels of condensate. BP intends to divest these assets to reduce debt and cut costs, though it will retain its interests in the Zohr gas field through its joint venture with XRG.
For Energean, the deal would expand its Egyptian portfolio and decrease its reliance on Israeli gas operations, which have been disrupted by regional conflicts. Energean previously competed for the assets against Dragon Oil, Carlyle Group, and Artemis Energy before entering exclusive talks. No final agreement has been reached, though the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation targets a final investment decision on the Temsah concession within the next few months.
