Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Version 26H2 Update

Microsoft released the Windows 11 2026 Update, designated as version 26H2. The update functions as an enablement package that activates security improvements, enhancements, and features delivered over the previous year to version 25H2.

Because the update shares a common codebase with versions 24H2 and 25H2, it is designed as a lightweight installation requiring only a single restart. The release resets the support lifecycle, offering 24 months of security and feature updates for Home and Pro editions and 36 months for Commercial editions.

Microsoft is deploying the update in waves, though users can manually accelerate the process through Windows Settings. Users on version 26H1 are ineligible for the update because no direct upgrade path exists due to differences in the underlying platform version.
