Hanwha and ONEX Partner to Expand U.S. Shipbuilding

Hanwha Power Systems and ONEX Shipyards and Technology signed an agreement on February 26, 2026, to expand joint industrial activities in the United States. The partnership focuses on shipbuilding, energy production, and regasification units, while integrating projects for power generation, energy storage platforms, and shipyard efficiency.

This collaboration aligns with goals from the United States government to work with South Korea to revitalize the American shipbuilding industry. Panos Xenokostas, CEO of ONEX, stated that the companies are joining forces to help bring maritime energy production back to the United States and accelerate the development of critical energy infrastructure.

Additionally, the initiative supports Greek objectives to establish a regional energy hub in the Balkans. This strategic positioning aims to facilitate the supply of liquefied natural gas produced in the United States to markets in central and southern Europe.
