UAE Considers 6.3 Billion Dollar AI Data Center in Japan

Mubadala Investment Company, Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, is considering an investment of up to ¥1 trillion ($6.3 billion) to construct an artificial intelligence data center in Japan's Akita prefecture. The 500-megawatt project would potentially become the largest data center in Japan. Total spending, including contributions from suppliers and surrounding businesses, could reach ¥2 trillion.

A consortium of Japanese companies is expected to manage the construction and infrastructure. This initiative aligns with the Government of Japan's strategy to attract global capital by designating priority investment zones for AI and semiconductors amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

A spokesperson for Mubadala declined to comment on the potential investment.
