Walmart opened a high-tech, next-generation fulfillment center in Stockton, California, designed to accelerate package delivery across the West Coast. The new facility is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs for the local community.
To support the region beyond employment, the company provided $10,000 grants to the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton and the Unbound Stockton Community School. Barat Smith, vice president of operations for the company's next-generation fulfillment network, stated that the organization aims to be deeply ingrained in the community through volunteering and monetary contributions.
