Paul Biya Reshuffles Cameroon Military Leadership From Abroad

President Paul Biya issued a presidential decree reorganizing Cameroon's senior military leadership while remaining outside the country. The reshuffle includes the promotion of Raymond Jean Charles Beko’o Abondo to brigadier general, where he maintains his command of the Presidential Guard. Major General Ebaka Hippolyte was appointed as Major General of the Armed Forces General Staff.

As part of the broader reorganization, Biya replaced the commanders of the four Joint Military Regions and promoted five colonels to the rank of Brigadier General.

These administrative changes occur as the 93-year-old president faces prolonged speculation regarding his health and extended absence from Cameroon. Critics have highlighted the lack of a clear succession roadmap, although the government maintains that Biya continues to exercise his constitutional powers.
