Western Azerbaijan Community Launches Research Into Armenian Heritage Sites

The Western Azerbaijan Community established a working group to research Albanian Christian heritage located within present-day Armenia. The initiative focuses on the historical Zangezur, Daralayaz, and Goycha Lake basins, where the group will study the architectural characteristics of churches, monasteries, and cross-stones using primary sources and archival documents.

Researchers aim to compile a unified scientific database by identifying scattered documents regarding the Albanian Catholicosate from the 16th to 19th centuries. This effort follows a visit by foreign diplomats to the Ganjasar Monastery complex earlier in September.

The organization views this cultural heritage as an integral part of its identity as descendants of deported Azerbaijanis. The community stated that the research will serve to document the historical and cultural foundations for the safe and dignified return of the deported population.
