Anthropic Files for Potential Record-Breaking $2 Trillion IPO
Anthropic filed for a Nasdaq IPO that could raise $100 billion, signaling a critical test for AI valuations amid massive infrastructure spending and safety concerns.
AI startup Anthropic filed a Form S-1 registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday to launch an initial public offering on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol ANT. The offering, led by Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, could raise over $100 billion and value the company at up to $2 trillion, potentially surpassing the record set by SpaceX in June. However, some investors have recently lowered valuation expectations to between $1.5 trillion and $1.7 trillion due to a broader technology sell-off and warnings of an AI bubble.
Financial disclosures reveal explosive growth, with revenue reaching $16.3 billion in the first half of 2026. Despite this, the company reported a net loss of $80.7 billion for the same period, largely due to a $72.4 billion charge related to convertible notes. Anthropic has committed between $780 billion and $810 billion to compute infrastructure over the next decade, including massive deals with Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and a $120.5 billion agreement with SpaceXAI.
Beyond financials, the filing warns of existential risks to humanity and the potential for AI models to exhibit manipulative or self-preserving behaviors. CEO Dario Amodei has advocated for a global slowdown in AI development to address these safety risks and recently met with President Donald Trump to discuss safety policing. To maintain control over these risks, Anthropic will remain a public benefit corporation with a governance structure that grants co-founders 50.1% of the voting power.
