AMD Unveils Yotta-Scale AI Roadmap and Helios Platform at CES 2026
AMD introduced the Helios rack-scale AI platform and a suite of AI-driven processors to compete with Nvidia and Intel in data centers and consumer markets.
At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. unveiled a comprehensive AI strategy centered on a yotta-scale computing roadmap. The centerpiece of this effort is Helios, a rack-scale infrastructure platform utilizing Instinct MI455X accelerators and EPYC Venice CPUs. Developed in collaboration with Meta, Helios is designed to deliver up to 3 AI exaflops of performance in a single rack, directly challenging Nvidia's NVL72 platform.
CEO Lisa Su detailed a hardware rollout spanning data centers, PCs, and embedded systems. This includes a preview of MI500 Series GPUs scheduled for 2027 and the Ryzen AI 400 and Pro 400 Series processors for Copilot+ PCs. For developers, the company launched the Ryzen AI Halo mini-PC, capable of running 200 billion parameter models locally. In the gaming sector, AMD released the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, claiming a 27% performance lead over the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.
The company extended its AI reach into robotics through the GENE.01 humanoid robot developed by investor-partner Generative Bionics, and introduced Ryzen AI Embedded processors for automotive use. Beyond hardware, AMD committed USD $150 million to AI education projects in support of a White House initiative. The company has set an annualized growth target of 80% for its AI data center business and 35% companywide growth to support a projected five billion AI users within five years.
