VanEck Semiconductor ETF Drops 12% From 52-Week High
The VanEck Semiconductor ETF fell 12% from its June peak to $593 per share amid short-term volatility in the artificial intelligence sector.
The VanEck Semiconductor ETF declined approximately 12% from its 52-week high of $671 per share, which it reached on June 22, falling to $593 per share as of September 21. This follows a period of sharper volatility where the fund dropped as much as 19% to $541 per share one week prior to the current reporting.
Despite the recent dip, the fund has maintained significant long-term growth, recording an 88% gain over the past year and a 65% increase year-to-date. The ETF tracks the MVIS US Listed Semiconductor 25 index, with performance heavily influenced by major holdings including Nvidia, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, and Broadcom Inc, as well as memory chip stock Micron Technology.
Analysts characterize the current price decline as a buying opportunity. They suggest the volatility occurs as the artificial intelligence sector shifts from a research and development phase toward a global rollout.
