United Airlines Delays 10 O'Hare Routes Due to FAA Caps

The Federal Aviation Administration extended a 10% cap on scheduled flights at Chicago O'Hare International Airport through October 30, 2027, citing ongoing construction, high traffic volumes from major carriers, and air traffic control staffing shortages. The restriction limits United Airlines and American Airlines to 2,708 arrivals and departures daily to prevent significant operational disruptions.

In response, United Airlines postponed the launch of 10 routes, including an international flight to Guadalajara and several regional U.S. destinations. Impacted markets include the Central Illinois Regional Airport, La Crosse Regional Airport, and University of Illinois-Willard Airport. Some of these services had already been delayed once from May 2026 to October 2026 before this latest extension pushed the start date to at least October 2027.

Airport authorities in the affected regions expressed disappointment but noted the delays stem from regulatory limitations at O'Hare rather than a change in market demand. United Airlines stated it remains committed to these communities and intends to resume the planned operations once the FAA regulation expires.
