Nigeria Appoints Ayo Fayose as Rural Electrification Agency Chairman

The Government of Nigeria appointed former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as the chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency board. The appointment was announced by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, as part of a larger group of 26 appointments to various federal agencies and commissions.

Isaac Fayose, the brother of the former governor, publicly urged Ayo Fayose to decline the appointment. Isaac Fayose argued that the position of a parastatal chairman is beneath his brother's political stature and suggested that a role such as a minister or ambassador would be more appropriate. He questioned the timing of the appointment, suggesting it may have been a strategic move following a visit by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Isaac Fayose further advised his brother to either reject the offer or transfer the opportunity to one of his sons. He noted that Ayo Fayose had previously stated his intention to focus on private business interests rather than seek further government positions after leaving the government house.
