Microsoft Tests Free Ad-Supported Xbox Cloud Gaming
Microsoft is testing a free, ad-supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming for Xbox Insider members to provide more affordable access to games.
Microsoft Corporation has begun testing a free, ad-supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming specifically for members of the Xbox Insider program. The trial enables users to stream select titles they already own without requiring a Game Pass subscription, provided they watch advertisements before a session begins. These streaming sessions are capped at one hour, though the company states that ads will not interrupt actual gameplay.
This initiative aims to expand affordable gaming access, particularly for owners of the Xbox One who want to play newer titles designed for Xbox Series X|S hardware without purchasing a new console. The service remains optional, as paid subscribers may continue to play without advertisements.
The rollout follows previous internal testing and comes during a period of organizational volatility for the Xbox brand. The company is currently managing studio closures and layoffs, and it is preparing to implement console price increases starting August 1st.
