ChangXin Memory Raises $8.6 Billion in Shanghai IPO
ChangXin Memory Technologies raised $8.6 billion in its Shanghai IPO, becoming the world's fourth-largest DRAM manufacturer and threatening established competitors like Micron Technology.
China's largest DRAM manufacturer, ChangXin Memory Technologies, raised $8.6 billion during its August 2026 debut on the Shanghai stock exchange. The IPO pushed the company's market capitalization to $487 billion on its first day, eventually climbing to $582.5 billion. Supported by the Politburo Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the company has secured an 11% global market share, making it the fourth-largest producer of computer memory chips.
Financial reports for the first half of 2026 show the company earned 150.3 billion yuan ($22.4 billion) in revenue and 77.6 billion yuan ($11.5 billion) in net profit, marking a year-over-year revenue increase of 874%. Despite this growth, the company remains two to three generations behind industry leaders Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology in technical capabilities.
ChangXin Memory Technologies plans to begin producing high bandwidth memory for artificial intelligence by the end of 2026. This strategic expansion directly impacts competitors, contributing to a nearly 20% decline in Micron Technology's stock price immediately following the IPO.
