Gombe State Deploys Security for Federal Constituency By-Election

The Gombe State Police Command deployed personnel and operational assets across the Gombe, Kwami, and Funakaye Local Government Areas to secure a by-election for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency on September 19, 2026. Commissioner of Police Umar Ahmed Chuso ordered the deployment to polling units, collation centers, and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission to prevent political thuggery and the spread of fake news.

To maintain order, the command and the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security established a restriction of movement and the closure of commercial activities from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, exempting only essential services. Authorities specified that security coverage is limited to statutory agencies, explicitly excluding private security, vigilante groups, and state-owned security outfits.

In preparation for the vote, the Independent National Electoral Commission distributed sensitive materials on September 18 from the Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Gombe. Resident Electoral Commissioner Alhaji Umar Muktar Gajiram confirmed the materials were dispatched to the three local government areas for final deployment to polling units. The election involves 495,851 registered voters, and Gajiram urged all participants to adhere to a signed Peace Accord to ensure a peaceful process.
