Karnataka Deletes 9.97 Million Voters in Electoral Roll Revision

The Government of Karnataka reduced its total voter count by 18 percent following a Special Intensive Revision that removed nearly 10 million names.

The Government of Karnataka published its final electoral roll on October 27, 2026, following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that began in June. The exercise resulted in the deletion of approximately 9.97 million names, reducing the total number of general electors from 55,432,314 to 45,455,689. Including service electors, the final statewide total stands at 45,500,011.

This 18 percent reduction is the highest among major Indian states. Deletions were most concentrated in the Bengaluru region, where four urban districts accounted for 4.5 million removals, or 45 percent of the state total. In contrast, Udupi district recorded the lowest reduction in the state at 4.67 percent. In Udupi, 63,331 names were removed during enumeration due to deaths, duplicate entries, and residence shifts, leaving a final roll of 1,014,143 voters.

Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukkumar stated that deletions followed prescribed inquiries and reasoned orders. Between the draft and final rolls, the state added 1,008,038 electors and processed 896,519 modifications. The revision also identified 47 non-Indian citizens in Udupi. Officials have urged citizens to verify their status and polling details through the official Election Commission of India portal.
