London Robotaxi Rollout Delayed Beyond 2026

The rollout of fully autonomous robotaxis in London is delayed beyond 2026. Although the UK government previously accelerated the timeline for commercial trials to spring 2026, Transport for London has not yet published the necessary guidance for companies to seek approval and is not accepting applications for automated passenger services.

Several companies are pursuing limited trials. Uber and Wayve have secured initial minicab licenses for pilots that require human safety drivers. Waymo is currently seeking safety approval with the goal of launching a fully autonomous service by the end of the year, while Baidu's Apollo Go targets a public launch in 2027.

Despite these efforts, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has not yet approved any vehicles for driverless operation. The delay stems from a combination of regulatory gaps and technical requirements that must be met before public services can begin.
