HMRC Urges Young Adults to Claim Unclaimed Child Trust Funds
Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs is urging individuals born between 2002 and 2011 to claim matured Child Trust Fund accounts.
Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs issued an alert on October 8, 2026, urging individuals born between September 1, 2002, and January 2, 2011, to check for unclaimed Child Trust Funds. The agency reports that approximately 827,000 young adults have matured accounts waiting to be claimed, with an average estimated value of £2,310.
Launched in 2005, the tax-free savings scheme provided initial deposits of £250, with additional payments for low-income families or those in local authority care. Although the scheme has since been replaced by Junior ISAs, eligible individuals can access their funds upon turning 18 or take control of the account at 16.
The Government of the United Kingdom provides a locator tool on GOV.UK to help citizens identify existing accounts.
