Election Commission Orders Special Voter Roll Revision in Telangana
The Election Commission of India is conducting a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana to remove ineligible voters and enroll first-time electors.
The Election Commission of India is conducting a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana to remove deceased persons, illegal immigrants, and ineligible voters. As part of this effort, the commission ordered special camps on October 15 and 16 at every polling station. These camps allow first-time young electors and those omitted from the August 17 draft rolls to file Form-6 applications for inclusion.
Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy defended the exercise, noting that the Congress-led Telangana government is implementing the process. He accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi of spreading misinformation by claiming the revision targets marginalized groups, including Adivasis, Dalits, and minorities. Reddy stated that any errors in the rolls should be rectified through proper channels.
Nationwide, the revision exercise has reportedly identified 2.8 crore deceased voters, 6.3 crore migrants, and one crore duplicate entries.
