UK and UAE Condemn Tigray Forces' Attacks in Ethiopia

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom and the government of the United Arab Emirates have condemned military escalations by Tigray-based forces against the Ethiopian government. The Tigray Defence Forces and the Tigray People's Liberation Front launched attacks in the Afar and southern Tigray regions and seized several airports within Tigray, removing legitimate federal authorities in the process.

UK officials warned that the renewed conflict risks devastating consequences for the region, specifically for women and girls. The UK government explicitly rejected the Alliance for Survival coalition's stated goal to overthrow the Ethiopian government and urged a return to dialogue mediated by the African Union.

Simultaneously, UAE Minister of State Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan stated that the attacks threaten the unity, sovereignty, and stability of Ethiopia. The UAE expressed full solidarity with the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and called for adherence to the Pretoria Peace Agreement to resolve the conflict. Both nations demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians.
