XRP Token Drops Below $1 Amid Ripple Platform Shift
XRP has fallen below $1 for the first time since 2024 as Ripple develops payment alternatives that reduce reliance on the volatile token.
Ripple has seen its native cryptocurrency, XRP, trade below $1 for the first time since 2024. The token currently remains 63% below its all-time peak, reflecting a significant loss in value since its creation in 2012.
While the XRP Ledger was designed to enable instantaneous global payments by bridging fiat currency exchanges, the token's utility is declining. Ripple is now developing a comprehensive payment platform that supports alternatives, including stablecoins, to provide more stability for institutional users.
Despite the technical capacity of Ripple Payments to settle transactions in seconds at a fraction of a cent, extreme price volatility continues to hinder adoption. Banks remain reluctant to integrate the token into their workflows due to the risk of steep financial losses during the holding periods required for settlement.
