Amazon Unveils Echo Show 16 and AI-Powered Smart Home Hardware
Amazon launched a new lineup of Alexa-powered devices, including the Echo Show 16 and Echo Time, to integrate AI more deeply into home environments.
During a media demo in New York, Amazon unveiled five new Alexa-powered devices designed to integrate the AI-enhanced Alexa+ assistant into the home. The centerpiece of the launch is the Echo Show 16, a 16-inch wall-mountable smart display featuring a slim metal chassis, built-in Fire TV, and a night-vision camera. It introduces Alexa Home Map, an AI tool that utilizes Ring camera feeds to track people and vehicles across a property.
The company also introduced specialized hardware, including the Alexa Photo Frame, a 10-inch digital display for Amazon Photos, and the Echo Time. Priced at $199.99, the Echo Time is a camera-free bedside clock that uses Omnisense ultrasonic sensors to track breathing and sleep stages to optimize wake-up routines. A version for children, the Amazon Kids Echo Time, is available for $209.99 and includes a subscription to Amazon Kids+.
Additional updates include a refreshed Echo Dot equipped with the AZ3 chip and a built-in smart home hub supporting Matter, Thread, and Zigbee. The premium Echo Studio now includes a variant with a built-in camera for remote monitoring and video calls, alongside new Adaptive Volume and Advanced Room Adaptation features. Panos Panay described the hardware as part of a premiumization strategy to support deeper AI conversations amid competition from Apple and OpenAI.
