One Nation Targets Pakenham in Victorian State Election Bid
One Nation leader Warren Pickering campaigned in Pakenham with promises to crack down on illegal dumping as polling shows a tight three-way race.
One Nation state leader and candidate Warren Pickering addressed supporters in Pakenham on Monday, targeting the marginal electorate ahead of the November state election. Pickering claimed that voters from both major parties are joining One Nation to avoid further "mediocrity" and because they "want to see change."
As part of the campaign, One Nation proposed a crackdown on illegal dumping through increased penalties, cost-recovery fines, and requiring full liability for clean-ups. The push for the seat comes as the current Labor member, Emma Vulin, announced she will not recontest the electorate.
Simultaneously, the Victorian Labor Party promised new fare caps and a 15-dollar weekly limit for concessions in an effort to secure a fourth successive term. Recent Resolve Political Monitor polling indicates a competitive race, with the coalition leading at 28 percent primary support, followed by Labor at 25 percent and One Nation at 23 percent.
