BBC Hires Entrepreneur Brandon Relph to Target Youth Audiences
The BBC appointed entrepreneur Brandon Relph to its strategy team to reverse viewership declines among young people and compete with digital platforms.
The BBC has appointed 26-year-old entrepreneur Brandon Relph to its strategy team to combat declining viewership among young demographics. Relph, a former Accenture employee who founded several tech and marketing companies, is tasked with helping the broadcaster compete with digital-first platforms such as TikTok and YouTube.
This appointment follows data showing that fewer than half of 16 to 24-year-olds watch live television monthly. Relph has previously cautioned that the broadcaster lacks a long-term future without a significant focus on younger audiences.
Director General Matt Brittin plans to reshape the organization as part of its royal charter renewal. His strategy involves prioritizing digital content and creating bespoke productions for YouTube, while simultaneously implementing cuts across other services.
