Reliance and Rolls-Royce Partner for Indian Combat Engines

Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce announced a strategic intent on August 14, 2026, to partner on the design, development, and manufacture of an indigenous combat engine for India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. The collaboration focuses on establishing an Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India to serve as a center of excellence for the entire engine lifecycle, including design, testing, and production.

Reliance Industries will provide technology, manufacturing, and execution capabilities, while Rolls-Royce contributes expertise in advanced propulsion. The initiative aligns with the Indian government's Atmanirbhar Bharat vision to achieve strategic autonomy and reduce dependence on foreign engine manufacturers for fifth-generation stealth fighters. The Government of India has earmarked 15 billion rupees for the AMCA programme to accelerate the development of these next-generation jets.

Company leaders characterized the move as a step toward national self-reliance. Anant Ambani stated that the goal is to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem, while Tufan Erginbilgiç described the partnership as a major milestone for the country's aerospace sector. Both companies clarified that the announcement is an expression of strategic intent rather than a formal joint venture or commercial contract, leaving financial details and timelines undisclosed.
