Nike Implements Turnaround Strategy Amid 44 Percent Stock Drop
Nike Inc. is rebuilding wholesale relationships and narrowing its product focus to combat declining share value and falling revenues in China.
Nike Inc. is executing a turnaround strategy to address a severe decline in share value, which has fallen approximately 44 percent in 2026 and 77 percent from its late 2021 peak. The company is currently facing its most significant headwinds in China, where revenue dropped 12 percent last quarter as domestic brands gained popularity.
To reverse these losses, the company is reducing excess inventory and rebuilding its wholesale relationships. Management is narrowing the corporate focus toward key sports and specific cities to regain market share. Despite these challenges, the company maintains a strong balance sheet with 9 billion dollars in cash and short-term investments.
Nike expects gross margins to begin expanding in the second quarter of fiscal 2027. Investors are monitoring these strategic shifts ahead of the company's next earnings report scheduled for October 1.
