Amazon and Alphabet Project Billions in 2026 AI Spending

Amazon and Alphabet are increasing 2026 capital expenditures to $200 billion and up to $185 billion respectively to expand artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Major technology firms are drastically increasing investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Amazon.com expects to spend $200 billion in capital expenditures for 2026, while Alphabet Inc. projects spending between $175 billion and $185 billion. These figures represent significant jumps from their 2025 expenditures of $131.8 billion and $91.4 billion, respectively.

Both companies are leveraging their cloud divisions to monetize generative AI workloads. Amazon Web Services recently saw revenue accelerate to 24%, while Google Cloud reported growth of 34% in the third quarter and 48% in the fourth quarter of the previous year. To manage costs and efficiency, Alphabet is utilizing Tensor Processing Units developed with Broadcom Inc., while Amazon is employing its Trainium and Inferentia chips.

These investments are expected to benefit hardware providers like Nvidia and Broadcom Inc. Additionally, Alphabet is partnering with Shopify on the Universal Commerce Protocol to enable AI-driven shopping via Google Search and the Gemini app. Despite investor concerns regarding the economic viability of such high spending, analysts from BNP Paribas argue that the investments are necessary to meet rising demand.
