Thai King and Queen Conduct Historic State Visit to Vietnam

The King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, and Queen Suthida conducted a historic state visit to Vietnam from September 15 to 17, 2026. Marking the first state visit by a Thai monarch since diplomatic relations began in 1976, the royal couple personally piloted their aircraft into Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

The visit coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and followed the May 2025 upgrade of the bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. During the trip, the Thai Royal Family and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held talks with General Secretary and State President To Lam, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, and National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man.

Both nations established a bilateral trade target of $25 billion and agreed to implement the Three Connects initiative to integrate economic sectors and supply chains. The two countries also pledged to expand cooperation in tourism, education, and language teaching while maintaining coordination within ASEAN and Mekong subregional mechanisms.
