Microsoft Corporation Plans Record $190 Billion AI Infrastructure Spend
Microsoft Corporation announced $190 billion in capital spending for 2026 to expand AI infrastructure while forecasting strong growth for its Azure cloud business.
Microsoft Corporation announced plans for record capital spending of $190 billion in 2026 to support its AI infrastructure, a figure that significantly exceeds analyst forecasts of $150 billion. Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood attributed $25 billion of this increase to the rising costs of components, specifically chips.
The company forecast that sales for its Azure cloud business will grow between 39% and 40% in the fiscal fourth quarter, surpassing Wall Street estimates. However, investors expressed concern regarding the adoption rate of the M365 Copilot AI assistant. The tool's user base grew to 20 million from 15 million in January, with CEO Satya Nadella stating that users engage with Copilot as frequently as they do Outlook.
While Microsoft Corporation expands its footprint, competitor Google Cloud reported a 63% revenue increase, outperforming its own estimates. Despite the competitive pressure and high costs, Microsoft Corporation leadership remains focused on the demand signals for its AI investments.
