Hyundai Unveils Massive 100-Model Expansion and AI Pivot
Hyundai Motor Company plans to launch over 100 new models by 2030 and transition into a physical AI company focusing on robotics and robotaxis.
During its 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul, Hyundai Motor Company announced the largest product expansion in its history, targeting the launch or refresh of over 100 vehicle models by 2030. The strategy allocates 58 models to North America, 49 to South Korea, 41 to Europe, 26 to India, and 22 to China. To support this growth, the company aims to increase global production capacity by approximately 1.3 million units and raise its 2030 annual sales target to 5.55 million vehicles.
CEO José Muñoz detailed a shift toward a diverse powertrain mix to counter softening electric vehicle demand and competition from Chinese rivals. This includes the introduction of extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains starting in early 2027, beginning with a Santa Fe SUV produced in Alabama with a 600-mile range. The luxury Genesis brand will also debut an EREV model with a range exceeding 640 miles. Additionally, Hyundai plans to offer more than 10 hybrid models in the U.S. by 2030, expecting them to comprise half of its U.S. sales.
Muñoz also outlined a transition into a physical AI company. This pivot includes supplying Ioniq 5 robotaxis to Waymo in late 2026 and deploying Atlas humanoid robots from Boston Dynamics at the Georgia Metaplant by 2028. To mitigate the impact of U.S. tariffs, the company is accelerating localization to reach 80% domestic production in the U.S. by 2030. Financially, the automaker raised its 2030 operating profit margin target to over 9% and announced a 789.1 billion won share retirement plan.
