Ruling Adilet Party Wins Kazakhstan Parliamentary Landslide

The ruling Adilet Democratic Party won a landslide victory in Kazakhstan's parliamentary elections on August 24, 2026, securing between 70% and 72.3% of the vote. Adilet, a rebranded version of the Amanat party created to support the agenda of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, is expected to hold the majority of the 145 seats in the Kurultai, the country's newly established unicameral parliament.

Four other political parties—Auyl, Respublica, Aq Jol, and the Nationwide Social Democratic Party—surpassed the 5% threshold required to enter the legislature, while the People’s Party and Baytaq failed to do so. The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan reported a voter turnout of 74.19%.

These elections follow constitutional changes enacted in March that abolished the upper house Senate to create a single-chamber body. While the government describes these reforms as part of a "Just Kazakhstan" program to democratize the nation, critics contend the changes cement the power of President Tokayev and reset term limits to enable him to seek re-election in 2029.
