Revanth Reddy Recommends Removal of Minister Konda Surekha

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recommended the immediate removal of Endowments and Forests Minister Konda Surekha from the Council of Ministers on September 3, 2026. The decision followed consultations with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and the All India Congress Committee. The move stems from a disciplinary dispute triggered by remarks made by Surekha's daughter, Konda Sushmitha, who criticized the Chief Minister and his brother during an August 19 meeting in Warangal.

Prior to her removal, Konda Surekha traveled to New Delhi to meet with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Telangana Congress in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan. She argued that she should not be held responsible for her daughter's independent statements and refused to resign from her post. Surekha challenged the party high command to sack her, warning that any disciplinary action could trigger a backlash from Backward Class communities in the state.

In a simultaneous administrative shuffle, the Chief Minister rescinded the appointment of G. Chinna Reddy as Vice Chairman of the Telangana Planning Board, replacing him with Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. To maintain Backward Class representation, the government appointed Nerella Sharada as Chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Women and Sudha Rani as Chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority.
