Israel Conducts Raids in Lebanon Despite US Ceasefire Framework
The Military of Israel launched drone strikes and ground incursions in southern Lebanon while the United States attempts to implement a phased Israeli withdrawal agreement.
The Military of Israel conducted a series of drone strikes, artillery shelling, and ground incursions across southern Lebanon between July 10 and July 12, 2026. Recent operations included missile strikes in Mansouri that injured seven civilians and a ground advance into the eastern outskirts of Beit Yahoun involving Merkava tanks and armored bulldozers. In the border town of Khiam, forces carried out large-scale demolition operations, while troops near Majdal Zoun destroyed 200-meter-long tunnel networks used by Hezbollah.
Israeli officials stated the strikes targeted Hezbollah operatives, including a young motorcyclist killed in Kfar Rumman near an underground infrastructure access shaft. These escalations persist despite a U.S.-sponsored framework agreement signed on June 26 intended to facilitate a phased Israeli withdrawal. The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reports that since March 2, Israeli assaults have killed 4,322 people, injured 12,210, and displaced over one million individuals.
In response, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called for U.S. intervention to prevent Israel from expanding occupied territories or targeting Beirut. Meanwhile, Amnesty International demanded an immediate arms embargo and war crimes investigations into Israeli strikes. To stabilize the region, the United States Department of State announced the implementation of the framework via initial pilot zones, with a U.S. military delegation from CENTCOM traveling to Beirut and technical talks between Lebanon and Israel scheduled in Rome.
