Microsoft Merges Copilot Apps Into Unified AI Super App
Microsoft is merging its consumer and enterprise Copilot applications into a single experience to launch an AI Super App by late September.
Microsoft has begun merging its consumer and enterprise Copilot applications into a single unified experience. The rollout started this week for a small subset of users, with worldwide mobile and web availability expected in mid-August and Windows and macOS applications following in mid-September.
This unification provides the structural foundation for a planned Super App expected by the end of September. The new platform will integrate chat, GitHub Copilot coding, Cowork, and a new agentic workflow capability internally named Autopilot. While commercial users will experience mostly cosmetic changes, consumer users will lose several features starting August 18, including Copilot Podcasts, Group Chat, and Deep Research. Microsoft maintains that personal and work data will remain separate within the application.
Led by executive Jacob Andreou, the initiative aims to unify AI branding to better compete with rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. The shift follows a reorganization of leadership, with Mustafa Suleyman moving from consumer AI efforts to a role focused on AI model development. Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella announced the Super App timeline and has advocated for the use of open-weight AI models to avoid dependence on any single model.
