Russia and Ukraine Exchange Lethal Strikes on Ports and Infrastructure

Russia and Ukraine exchanged lethal aerial attacks on August 4, 2026, targeting critical infrastructure, maritime shipping, and residential zones. The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation reported striking four Ukrainian military-linked cargo ships and the Chornomorsk Automotive Components Plant. Two dry cargo ships were hit in the ports of Mykolaiv and Pivdennyi, while two other vessels transporting weapons were struck south of Odesa. The Russian ministry stated that the Chornomorsk terminal was used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for repairing military vehicles and storing ammunition and fuel.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces launched a wide-ranging drone campaign. Ukrainian drones struck a crowded beach in Arkhipo-Osipovka, killing seven people, including three children, and hit the Moscow region, where five people died in the Chekhov municipal district. Robert Brovdi of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces stated that 15 Wildberries warehouses have been targeted over 18 days, including sites in the Leningrad and Tver regions.

Russian glide bombs and aerial strikes in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions killed at least four civilians. The escalation prompted the Government of Turkey to express concern over the safety of navigation in the Black Sea after two Turkish-owned ships were attacked, warning that the conflict threatens global food security and civilian shipping.
