Beyond the financial support, Ocasio-Cortez plans to campaign in Buffalo, Syracuse, and Ithaca. During these stops, she intends to highlight the risks to rural hospitals resulting from Republican congressional cuts. The donation follows requests from Governor Hochul and signals Ocasio-Cortez's preference for the governor's operation over the state party chairman, Jay Jacobs, with whom she has previously clashed.

While the move has sparked speculation about a potential 2028 run for the Senate or presidency, Ocasio-Cortez stated she will weigh those decisions after the midterm elections.
